The Dreadnought hit the streets on the 9th March 1912 and only lasted 12 weeks before being relaunched - never a healthy sign! The second series ran for 121 issues before being renamed "The Dreadnought & War Pictorial". This name lasted 5 issues before again being renamed, this time as "The Dreadnought & Boys War Weekly". Eight issues later it was back to the Dreadnought. Issue 2/159 dated the 12th June 1915 was the last issue before being amalgamated with the Boys' Friend.
No Hamilton material featured in series 1.
Initially the Dreadnought featured stories from well known AP authors like RW Comrade (ES Brooks), George Marsden Plummer, Allan Blair, Lewis Carlton, Andrew Gray, David Goodwin, Sidney Drew and AS Hardy. Hamilton made his first appearance in issue 2/33 but unfortunately all his contributions to the Dreadnought were reprints. Approximately 30 Cliveden stores were reprinted from the Boys' Herald and a further 25 issues featured early Greyfriars stories culled from the Magnet.
